Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years within Traditional Chinese Medicine. At Bai Kang, I look not only at the specific complaint, but at your situation as an interconnected whole.

Looking at the whole picture

Acupuncture is more than a needle on a point.

A complaint rarely exists entirely on its own. Pain, tension, fatigue, or sleep problems can influence how you feel and respond in daily life. Within Traditional Chinese Medicine, we therefore look beyond the area where the discomfort appears.

How does your body feel? How do you sleep? What is your energy level throughout the day? And how do different physical signals relate to one another?

During treatment, I use these answers to form an individual treatment picture and to tailor the selection of acupuncture points accordingly.

Two perspectives

A treatment that stimulates the body.

Modern physiology studies how acupuncture may influence the nervous system, pain processing, and local tissue responses. Within TCM, this is viewed in terms of supporting the free flow of Qi and natural balance. These perspectives can exist alongside one another.

Visualization of Body, Patterns, and Balance at Bai Kang TCM

01. Stimulation

Targeted stimulation

Very fine, sterile needles provide a subtle stimulus at carefully selected points, based on your individual TCM assessment.

02. Response

Natural response

The body responds to the stimulation. From a modern physiological perspective, this includes responses of the nervous system and local tissue processes.

03. Relaxation

Time to recover

While resting on the treatment table, your body has time to respond to the treatment. Many people experience a deep sense of relaxation during this time.

Traditional Philosophy

The perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

“The body is not viewed as a collection of separate parts, but as a dynamic whole.”

Qi & Free Flow

Within TCM, the free circulation of Qi and blood is considered important for natural balance. Stagnation is traditionally associated with tension and pain complaints.

Balance & Interconnection

Within TCM, different bodily functions are considered interconnected. Factors such as sleep, nutrition, and daily demands may be related to how someone feels.

Individual Differentiation

Two people with the same headache may receive different treatment approaches within TCM because their findings and underlying patterns may differ.

Lifestyle & Load

Sleep, stress, nutrition, and daily demands are considered as part of the overall picture so that treatment can be tailored as closely as possible to your situation.

Approach

First look, then treat.

01

The Intake & Your Story

We take the time to listen to your story. What is your concern? How did the complaints develop, and how do they affect your daily life?

02

Traditional Diagnostics

Through observation, tongue and pulse diagnosis, I form a TCM treatment picture and assess which pattern appears to be most prominent according to this approach.

03

The Treatment

Very fine needles are carefully placed. You then rest for approximately 25 to 30 minutes in a quiet, warm treatment room.

04

Evaluation & Follow-up

We discuss what you experienced and how your body responded. Follow-up treatments are adjusted according to your current response.

Patient deeply relaxed during an acupuncture session

Lie quietly. Take a moment for yourself.

No screens. No hurry. The needles are so fine that insertion is often barely noticeable. What remains is a quiet moment in which your body has time to respond to the treatment.

Needle-Free Option

Acupuncture does not always require needles.

For those who are sensitive to stimulation, feel apprehensive about traditional needles, or simply prefer a needle-free approach, laser acupuncture offers an alternative without needles.

Instead of needles, concentrated low-level light is used to stimulate the same acupuncture points without penetrating the skin.

At Bai Kang, laser acupuncture is used for tension complaints, as support for pain complaints, and as part of the targeted programme for quitting smoking and vaping. rookvrij.nu.

Part of responsible care

Acupuncture is a complementary treatment approach and does not replace necessary conventional medical care. In acute or severe situations, conventional medical assessment is appropriate. At Bai Kang, I work with care, attention, and respect for conventional medical diagnostics.
